One of my go-to business reads is Chris Anderson's The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More. Thanks to the unlimited virtual shelf space the Web provides, merchants can afford to sell only a handeful of copies of an item. Such a scenario is impossible in the physical world.

Turning to books, even the largest Barnes & Nobles store can only stock about 150,000 titles at a time. (The corporation's warehousing capabilities extend much further.) Even one million books, though, represents a fraction of the texts published each year.
