Experienced ghostwriters who agree to help their clients pen nonfiction books implicitly agree to wear many hats. New ghosts quickly learn that they'll do much more than churn out quality prose.

By contract, professional courtesy, or both, ghostwriters also keep their work confidential. As part of the deal, their clients—the named authors—receive all the credit. (I'll leave royalties alone here.) That doesn't mean, however, that authors can't publicly praise their collaborators for a job well done. Many do.

In today's post, I'll address if and how you should credit your ghostwriter. But first, a few words about the role of writing partners today.
