You're problably not a software developer. I'm not either—although I know enough to be dangerous.

If you're sitting on the outside, it's natural to believe that anyone can read, understand, and fix code. After all, how difficult can it be for a seasoned Python expert to debug errant programs or scripts in her native language?

Harder than you expect, but don't believe me. As 404 Media reports, Google engineers are currently facing this problem. Whyt? Because of the company's aggressive dive into AI.

Investors love AI mentions in quarterly reports and product announcements. Anthropic recently claimed that its tools generate 80 percent of its code.

Here's the money quote from the 404 Media article:

No one understands the code because no one wrote it.
