On February 19, 2025, legendary Pittsburgh Penguins broadcaster Mike Lange passed away at 76.

I am sad, but I will always remember him.

I’m not a big hockey fan. I haven’t watched an entire game in more than a decade, but I could never forget Lange.

While in college, I fondly recall watching the games he worked. I almost always laughed after Mario Lemieux or Jaromir Jagr scored. Lange—an unabashed Pittsburgh fan—would wait for the perfect moment to utter one of his iconic lines. My favorote: “Ahhh, get in the fast lane, Grandma, the bingo game is ready to roll.”
