To PROVIDE A FRESH, MUCH-NEEDED, and NO-BULLSHIT APPROACH TO CONTEMPORARY NON-FICTION PUBLISHING.

About

Racket Publishing is the brainchild of award-winning author and Motion Publishing founder Phil Simon. He believes that, with rare exception, traditional publishers and the vast majority of professionals are stuck in their ways. They cling to antiquated business processes, technologies, and mindsets. For example, email and attachments continue to rule the day. There’s just one problem:

It’s no longer 1998.

Simon believes that there’s a vastly better way to write and publish. By embracing new, user-friendly collaboration technologies and tools, it’s possible to make writing and publishing projects more efficient, cost-effective, and even downright fun. Yes, fun.

AUTHOR COACHING

Writing a book takes a tremendous amount of effort—and then there’s the publishing and the marketing. (Yikes.) Let Racket Publishing help you avoid the mistakes that plague most first-time and even experienced scribes.

You’ve got ideas for full-length non-fiction books, e-books, blog posts, or other long-form content. Lamentably, you don’t have the time or experience to take your writing project into the end zone. Let Racket step in.

BOOK TITLE & IDEA BRAINSTORMING

Far too many would-be non-fiction authors begin on the wrong foot: their core concept or big idea is flawed, hackneyed, outdated, and/or just plain boring. Let Racket help you find a compelling hook that will excite agents, acquisitions editors, and readers.

FAQ

Does Racket publish books?

Racket Publishing’s first title is coming in mid-2022. For the most part, though, the company helps experienced and first-time authors achieve their goals, including finding the right publishing model for them. Authors seeking traditional book advances and the like, however, should look elsewhere.

What's the deal with book royalties?

Racket Publishing provides writing, publishing, and coaching services. It does not receive royalties from your future book sales.

I want to write a fiction book. Can you help?

Best of luck to you, but Racket specializes in non-fiction writing. Still, The Author Flywheel: How to Intelligently and Affordably Market Your Book will help you raise awareness of your book and ultimately goose sales.

What's the deal with this site's colors?

Racket founder Phil Simon is a big tennis fan.

What are your coaching, consulting, and writing rates?

They vary by project. A one-hour coaching session costs far less than a three-month ghostwriting project.

What tools does Racket use with its clients?

It depends on the project, but the answer is certainly not email on a regular basis. Tools vary. Examples include Zoom, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Trello, Asana, Basecamp, Google Docs, Loom, and others can vastly improve the outcomes on writing and publishing projects. They save time and money.

If you haven’t heard of these applications, no bother. Racket founder Phil Simon enjoys—er, geeks out on—showing others how to use these tools—and digs learning new ones himself.

Talk to me about billing.

For coaching, Racket charges in advance. For longer engagements such as ghostwriting, clients pay in stages—starting with an initial deposit to kick off the project. After that point, clients pay when Racket meets agreed-upon milestones.
